Sculpture Torso Reproduction of Auguste Rodin

This impressive torso with very pronounced muscles was used for three characters from The Gates of Hell, of which the Falling Man is the most remarkable.

The curious exuberances in the form of wedges were used to mount the statue. It is unclear why Rodin allowed them to remain when the torso was later exhibited on its own.

Katsushika Hokusai

During his nearly ninety-year life, Hokusai used about thirty names, including Gakyojin, which can be translated as “paint freak”. Hokusai became famous for his "36 Views of Mount Fuji" series of images. From there comes his most famous image "The great wave off Kanagawa".

The Japanese counted Hokusai's works more as "applied art", while in Europe his work won over to Japonism, inspired artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt and retained the new art.

Self-taught, Leonardo da Vinci tended to compensate for his lack of classical training with abundant empirical studies.

The best known of these studies is the Vitruvian Man, so named because it is based on a description of the ideal proportions of the human body

formulated by the Roman architect Vitruvius (± 85-20 BC).

Gold Ours Blanc Pompon

Pompon spent most of his life in the service of other artists. He directed Rodin's studio from 1890 to 1895, and then became René de Saint-Marceaux's assistant until 1916.

In search of his own style, he was largely influenced by the rise of Japonism and its admiration for Egyptian art.

It was only at the age of 67 that he rose to fame, with the exhibition of his famous Ours blanc.
