Sculpture LThe Thinker Auguste Rodin
Rodin never wanted to say what his Thinker was thinking, explaining only that he was thinking:"My Thinker does not only think with his brain, his forehead wrinkled, his nostrils open and his lips pursed,
but also with every muscle of his ras, of his back and his legs, with his ... closed and his toes curled up.
" The Thinker, one of Rodin's most famous works, was originally part of the 'Gates of Hell'.
Sitting in the eardrum, the thinker contemplates hell: he judges people from below but is also locked up. The Thinker was Rodin's first work exhibited in public.
